Presented in a large-format bottle with matching Chimay glassware, this Grande Réserve gift set turns one of Belgium’s best-known Trappist beers into a strong sharing or gifting option. The beer is designed for slower drinking, and its dark-fruit and malt character becomes more expressive as it warms slightly in the glass.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Ripe plum, raisin, caramelised malt and gentle Belgian yeast, with warming spice underneath.
Palate: Full and rounded, combining dark fruit, brown sugar, toasted malt and a measured alcoholic warmth.
Finish: Long, warming and gently dry, with lingering fruit, spice and malt.

JSB_man –
Dark brown-copper in the glass with a persistent pale head. Caramel, molasses and plum sit against a notably dry woody bitterness, with touches of vanilla, cocoa and almond through the finish.
ummswimmin –
A dependable Trappist strong ale with an inviting Belgian character, a touch of tobacco on the nose and a rich, distinctive ale flavour. A beer that remains impressive even after repeated tastings.
BBD Review Summary –
A complex dark ale where fruit and malt are the main attraction. Best given a little time in the glass for the aroma to open.
Belgian Beer Review Summary –
Rich dark fruit, caramel and warming spice give this a classic strong Trappist profile. The finish stays balanced rather than becoming excessively sweet.
BBD Tasting Summary –
A slow-drinking beer with plenty of malt depth, mature fruit character and a warming finish that suits cooler evenings.
Belgian Beer Direct Editorial –
Full-bodied and contemplative, with dried fruit, caramelised malt and a restrained woody dryness that keeps the richness in check.
BBD Review Summary –
Dark, rich and aromatic, with a smooth texture and a finish that develops from sweet malt into drier cocoa-like notes.
Belgian Cellar Notes –
A very enjoyable bottle: a strong choice for birthdays, Christmas or anyone building a Belgian beer glass collection. One for a proper glass rather than drinking straight from the bottle.
Bottle Notes –
The branded glass is a nice addition and makes the set more than just a multipack. The balance is the key point here; nothing feels too forced. Well suited to sharing from the larger bottle formats.
Belgian Tasting Notes –
A very enjoyable bottle: a practical gift for someone who already enjoys Belgian beer or wants to discover it. It has enough individuality to make it worth seeking out again. It has enough character to stand on its own without food.
Food Pairing Notes –
What stands out here is how a strong choice for birthdays, Christmas or anyone building a Belgian beer glass collection. A touch richer than my usual preference, though it is very well made. Well suited to sharing from the larger bottle formats.
Lambic Notes –
The branded glass is a nice addition and makes the set more than just a multipack. The balance is the key point here; nothing feels too forced. I would serve it in the correct Belgian glass and give it a few minutes to open up.
